Real wedding: Sophie and Fergus’ fun centred wedding

Posted on

2024 bride and groom, Sophie and Fergus Almond-Chalmers, married in July this year at the beautiful Eastington Park. We caught up with the happy couple to see what special elements they added to their day to make it a memorable one. From unique wedding favours to a macaroni-cheese station.

Tell us a bit about your wedding…

“We didn’t have a specific theme for our wedding, but we wanted to ensure a relaxed family atmosphere throughout the day. Our main aim when we were planning our wedding was that we wanted our friends and family to have fun, and we also wanted to give them something to talk about!

I think it’s natural for every bride and groom to want their wedding to stand out and everyone worries endlessly about their guests having a good time. For this reason, we included a few unique elements as part of our wedding day to give everyone something to remember.

One example was our wedding favours. These were hand-selected books from local charity shops, which were wrapped in brown paper with a short blurb on the front so the actual book was a surprise for our guests! This went down really well. Similarly, we wanted our food choices to be memorable as everyone knows food makes or breaks a wedding. More on this below!”

How did the wedding day go?

“The wedding day was perfect in every way, and it really is true that everything goes by in a flash – one minute you’re walking down the aisle to marry the love of your life, and the next thing you know you’re dancing to the last song of the night (Love Story by Taylor Swift) and saying goodbye to everyone!

Despite the extreme heat, everyone had a great time, and we had so many compliments from guests on both the food and the day itself.

Food-wise, the highlight of the day was definitely the macaroni-cheese station. When we saw this in the Berry Blue brochure, we knew straight away that we had to have it. I’ve never heard of anyone having macaroni cheese and we thought it was such a unique idea, and exactly what you need to perk you up for more dancing! We’re known for loving cheese and pasta so this fits so well with our personalities. The toppings were amazing and our guests with dietary requirements were catered for, meaning that everyone got to enjoy the fun.”

What was on the wedding menu?

“For our wedding breakfast, we had a formal sit-down BBQ with chicken skewers, steaks, roasted new potatoes, green salad, pesto pasta salad, and ciabatta rolls. We followed this with our wedding cake, tea and coffee, and later on we had Berry Blue’s ice cream cart as well.

For our evening food, we had the macaroni cheese station with a variety of toppings, including pulled pork and parmesan crumb.”

How and why did you decide on the menu options?

“Given that we were getting married in late July we knew that it was a possibility that we could have hot weather, and for that reason, we wanted to avoid a three-course dinner and have food that was slightly more informal and served in a sharing style.

The weather on the day was absolutely boiling so we were very glad that we chose the formal BBQ for our wedding breakfast. It immediately put people at ease, and everyone was able to enjoy themselves without feeling too full. The sharing style also helped to add to the relaxed atmosphere and it got everyone on the tables talking.”

Would you recommend Berry Blue?

“Berry Blue was fantastic from start to finish and kindly answered all of our silly questions throughout the process. The tasting that we had was really a highlight of the whole process as well, we ate SO much food. We would thoroughly recommend Berry Blue to anyone planning their wedding!”

Congratulations to the happy couple, we wish you both all the best for the future.
